Takaoka Craft Ichiba-machi
The ‘Takaoka Craft Ichiba-machi’ is a combined craft event held in the center of Takaoka City, Toyama Prefecture. It has been held around autumn each year since 2012, as a collaborative event run by industry, academia and local government in Takaoka, with the ‘Craft Competition in Takaoka’ as the main part of the event.
The Craft Competition in Takaoka is in its 31st year this year. While its origins are in Takaoka’s traditional industries, by continuing to focus on crafts, which are relevant to current industries and lifestyles, Takaoka is becoming a major hub for crafts in Japan.
The Takaoka Craft Ichiba-machi began with the aim of giving people an opportunity to experience crafts, however the event is not only about crafts. We believe it is important to make new discoveries through the combined experience of talking with the local people and the artisans who support the craft industry, walking along streets filled with history and enjoying the food culture of the area, where people cook with delicious Hokuriku ingredients.
We hope that you will take this opportunity to ‘see’, ‘buy’, ‘experience’ and ‘eat’ all that Takaoka has to offer.
